About Arcadia, Florida

Arcadia, Florida is the seat of DeSoto County and the heart of Florida's cattle country. Founded in the 1880s, this small town on the Peace River has deep ranching roots and a charming historic downtown lined with antique shops and restored buildings. Arcadia is perhaps best known for hosting the All-Florida Championship Rodeo, one of the oldest rodeos in the state, held every March and July since 1929.

Beyond the arena, the Peace River draws paddlers and fossil hunters who search its banks for prehistoric shark teeth, mammoth bones, and other Pleistocene treasures. The surrounding landscape of oak hammocks, pine flatwoods, and open prairie supports abundant wildlife, including sandhill cranes, bald eagles, and white-tailed deer.
