- The ALTerator Shopify app ("App") for AI-powered alt text generation

Information Collection and Use
For Swell Scenes Website (swellscenes.com)
We collect information that you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, place an order, subscribe to our newsletter, or communicate with us. This information may include your name, email address, shipping address, payment information, and any other details you choose to provide.
We also automatically collect certain information through our Site, including but not limited to your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, page views, and dates and times of your visits.
For ALTerator App (Shopify Integration)
When you install and use the ALTerator app on your Shopify store, we collect and process the following information:
Store Information:
- Shop domain and Shopify store ID
- Store owner email address (for authentication and support)
- Subscription and billing information (managed through Shopify)
Product Data:
- Product titles, descriptions, and handles
- Product images and media files (URLs only, not stored permanently)
- Existing image alt text
- Collection, blog post, and page information (where images are used)
Generated Content:
- AI-generated alt text descriptions
- Quality scores and metadata
- Bulk job history and change logs (retained for 30 days)
Usage Analytics:
- Number of images processed
- Feature usage patterns (anonymized)
- Error logs for troubleshooting
AI Processing:
We use OpenAI's API to generate alt text. When processing images:
- Product images are sent to OpenAI temporarily for analysis
- Only image URLs and product context are shared
- No images are permanently stored by OpenAI

Important: We DO NOT collect, store, or access your customers' personal information (names, addresses, payment details, etc.). We only access product and media information necessary for alt text generation.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our Site and App and hold certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data that may include an anonymous unique identifier. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site or App.

Swell Scenes Website
The information we collect helps us to improve our Site and to deliver a better and more personalized service, including by enabling us to:

ALTerator App

- Generate AI-powered alt text for your product images

- Provide history and rollback functionality (30-day retention)
- Track usage for billing and plan limits
- Provide customer support and troubleshooting
- Improve the App's functionality and AI models
We DO NOT:
- Use your data to train our own AI models
- Share your product information with other users or third parties (except OpenAI for processing)
- Sell or rent your data to advertisers or marketers
- Access your store's customer data or order information
Sharing of Information
General
We may share your information with third parties who perform services for us or on our behalf, such as processing payments, conducting surveys, or sending emails. We require that these parties agree to process such information based on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy.
ALTerator App Specific
For the App, we share limited data with:
OpenAI (AI Processing Partner):
- Product images (URLs) and product context are sent to OpenAI's API for alt text generation
- Data is processed in real-time and not permanently stored by OpenAI
- Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy and data processing agreement
Shopify (Platform Provider):
- We access your store data through Shopify's secure API
- All authentication and authorization is handled by Shopify
- Billing is processed through Shopify's secure payment system
We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or a government agency).
Data Retention
Swell Scenes Website
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services.
ALTerator App
- Generated Alt Text: Stored until you modify or delete it through your Shopify admin
- Bulk Job History: Retained for 30 days for rollback functionality, then automatically deleted
- Usage Statistics: Retained for billing and analytics purposes
- Account Data: Retained while the App is installed; deleted within 30 days of uninstallation
You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at team@swellscenes.com.
Security
The security of your information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
For the ALTerator App:
- All data transmission occurs over HTTPS (encrypted)
- We use Shopify's secure OAuth authentication
- Database access is restricted and encrypted
- We follow Shopify's security best practices and compliance standards
- Regular security audits and updates
Your Rights
You have the right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you. Whenever made possible, you can access, update, or request deletion of your Personal Information directly within your account settings section. If you are unable to perform these actions yourself, please contact us to assist you.
For ALTerator App Users:
- Access Your Data: View all generated alt text and history within the App
- Export Your Data: Download reports of bulk generation jobs
- Delete Your Data: Uninstall the App to trigger data deletion (completed within 30 days)
- Rollback Changes: Undo bulk changes within 30 days using the History page
- Control Data Collection: Disable auto-generation in Settings to limit data processing
GDPR Rights (EU Users):
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of your personal data
- Request erasure of your personal data
- Request restriction of processing your personal data
- Object to processing your personal data
- Request data portability

International Data Transfers
The ALTerator App may process data in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries outside of your country of residence, which may have different data protection rules.

Neither the Swell Scenes website nor the ALTerator App are intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
