Audubon-Style Bird Prints for a Home Office
Bird prints have hung in studies and libraries for generations, partly thanks to the classic naturalist plates of the 1800s. Swell Scenes makes original bird illustrations in that tradition, designed in-house and printed to order. They are our own artwork, not reproductions of John James Audubon's Birds of America, with the same calm, detailed feel.
Choosing birds for an office
A few approaches that work:
- One striking bird: a large wader such as the great blue heron, great egret or roseate spoonbill above a desk or credenza.
- Backyard birds as a set: the northern cardinal, black-capped chickadee, eastern bluebird, Carolina wren, tufted titmouse and white-breasted nuthatch hang well in a grid.
- Owls for a darker, library feel: the barred owl or great grey owl.
- Color for a bright room: the painted bunting, ruby-throated hummingbird or Baltimore oriole.
- Your state bird or a bird from home: for example the western meadowlark or mountain bluebird.

Frames and layout
Black or wood frames give the classic study look; white frames feel lighter in a bright room. A single print above a desk works at 16x20 or 18x24. For a grid of four or six, use 8x10 or 11x14 prints in identical frames with even spacing. Every print comes unframed, framed in black, white or wood, or as floating-frame canvas in black, white or walnut, and framed pieces arrive ready to hang.
For a ready-made group, see our Birds, Backyard Songbirds and Birds of Prey gallery wall sets, where you can swap any print for another bird.
Ordering
Each print is made to order on museum-grade matte paper: most ship within 3 to 5 days and arrive 3 to 6 days later in the U.S. Shipping is free on orders of 3 or more items. A bird print also makes a good gift for a birder; pair it with the bird they were most excited to spot.
