Framed Print, Canvas or Print Only? How to Choose
Every Swell Scenes design comes three ways: as a print on its own, as a framed print, or as a canvas in a floating frame. Here is what each one is, how they compare, and how to choose.
Print Only
A print on museum-quality 189 gsm matte paper with archival pigment inks, shipped rolled in a sturdy tube. It is the least expensive option and suits you if you already have frames, want to choose your own frame or mat, or plan to swap art often. Our print sizes (5x7, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 18x24 and 24x36 inches, among others) match common ready-made frame sizes.
Framed print
The same paper print in a 0.75 inch Ayous wood frame in black, white or natural wood, with a lightweight, shatter-resistant Acrylite front instead of glass. It arrives ready to hang with hardware installed. Choose it for a clean, finished look with no extra steps, and for gifts.
Floating-frame canvas
The design printed on canvas and set in a floating frame in walnut, white or black, which leaves a small gap between the canvas and the frame so the art appears to float. There is no front panel, so there is no glare. It costs the most and gives the richest, most gallery-like look, especially at larger sizes.

Which looks better in a bedroom or living room?
- Bright rooms with windows opposite the art: canvas, because it has no front panel to reflect light.

Is it worth framing it yourself?
It can be, if you already own frames in standard sizes or want a specific mat. Buy the Print Only version in a standard size and it will fit a ready-made frame. If you would need to buy a frame anyway, a framed print saves the trip and arrives ready to hang.
