About Apollo 15
Apollo 15 launched on July 26, 1971, landed at Hadley-Apennine, and was the first mission to the Moon with the Lunar Roving Vehicle. It lasted 12 days and 7 hours.
Photographed on August 1, 1971, toward the end of the second moonwalk, the lunar module pilot salutes beside the flag, with the lunar module Falcon in the center and the rover on the right. The view looks almost due south to Hadley Delta, which rises about 4,000 meters above the plain about 5 km away. NASA image AS15-88-11866 is printed here with its launch date, landing site, duration and image ID.
The colors are real. This is an authentic photograph taken by the Apollo 15 crew, not an artist's rendering or digital illustration.
