“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too truly to be fearful of the night.” Sarah Williams, The Old Astronomer (1868), set above Earthrise.
About the Print
Earthrise was photographed from lunar orbit on December 24, 1968, during Apollo 8. Our text is the poem’s original 1868 wording (“too truly”, often misquoted as “too fondly”).
