About Earthset
Earth slips behind the Moon. On April 6, 2026, during their seven-hour lunar flyby aboard the Orion spacecraft, the Artemis II crew photographed our home planet setting behind the far side of the Moon.
The view echoes Apollo 8's iconic Earthrise of 1968: more than half a century later, explorers once again looking back at our world from the Moon. NASA image art002e021278 is printed here with its mission details: date, mission, spacecraft and image ID.
The colors are real. This is an authentic photograph taken by the Artemis II crew, not an artist's rendering or digital illustration.
