About The General Grant Tree And Kings Canyon
The General Grant Tree stands in Grant Grove in Kings Canyon National Park, part of California’s southern Sierra Nevada. A short, paved loop trail leads visitors through the grove to stand at the base of this massive giant sequoia, often called one of the most impressive trees in the world.
The tree has been honored with several national titles over the years. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant in the nineteenth century, proclaimed the Nation’s Christmas Tree in 1926, and dedicated as a National Shrine in 1956 in memory of Americans who have died in war. The surrounding Grant Grove area includes other notable sequoias, historic cabins, and easy trails through mixed conifer forest.
