Transform your walls with the awe-inspiring beauty of deep space. This NGC 2899 · The Butterfly Nebula Poster features an authentic photograph captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, showcasing one of the most symmetrical and visually stunning planetary nebulae ever observed. Vast wings of luminous gas stretch outward in delicate, iridescent layers — vivid blues, corals, and golds radiating from a dying star roughly 6,500 light-years away in the southern constellation Vela. This is genuine NASA space photography, carefully restored and upscaled for large-format fine art printing.

With its extraordinary bilateral symmetry and richly layered color, this image brings the grandeur of the cosmos into any living room, office, studio, or observatory-inspired space. The intricate gas structures, sculpted by stellar winds and ultraviolet radiation, reveal a level of natural beauty that rivals any masterwork of human art — and it's entirely real.

Why You'll Love It:

  • Authentic NASA Imagery: A real photograph from the Hubble Space Telescope — not an illustration or digital rendering — capturing NGC 2899 in breathtaking detail.
  • Extraordinary Cosmic Detail: The nebula's twin lobes of superheated gas display intricate filaments and gradients that draw you deeper into the scene the longer you look.
  • Vivid Deep-Space Palette: Rich jewel tones of sapphire, amber, and rose complement modern, minimalist, or dark-toned interiors with effortless sophistication.
  • Perfect Gift for Stargazers: Ideal for astronomy enthusiasts, science educators, space lovers, and anyone captivated by the mysteries of the universe.
  • Museum-Quality Production: Printed on archival matte paper with pigment inks for crisp detail and long-lasting color fidelity.

About the Image:

NGC 2899 is a planetary nebula formed when a sun-like star exhausted its nuclear fuel and shed its outer layers into space. What makes this nebula remarkable is its near-perfect butterfly shape — a phenomenon thought to result from the gravitational interaction of two central stars. The Hubble Space Telescope, launched in 1990 and still operational, has provided humanity with some of the most iconic images of the universe. This photograph was captured using Hubble's advanced optical instruments, which peer through the void with a clarity unmatched by ground-based observatories. Swell Scenes is a small U.S. art studio. Our designers, David and Travis, create original modern vintage art of real places: surf spots, national parks and trails, beaches, lighthouses, golf courses, ski runs and hometowns, plus NASA space art and bird illustrations. Every print is made to order, framed or unframed, and many can be personalized with your own text. You can reach us at team@swellscenes.com.

What are the shipping costs?

We currently offer a curated range of standard sizes and frame colors to ensure perfect quality and fit. If you need a specific size, reach out — we may be able to help.

Will the colors look the same in person?

Where are the prints made?

All Swell Scenes artwork is printed and framed in the U.S. using trusted print partners who specialize in fine art reproduction.

What is Acrylite and why do you use it?
