About Peʻahi (Jaws)

Peʻahi, commonly called Jaws, sits on the north shore of Maui a few miles east of Pāʻia. It is an exposed reef break that comes alive in winter when north to northeast swells meet favorable winds, producing some of the world’s most powerful surf. The break became famous for tow-in surfing in the 1990s and later for paddle-in performances during historic swells. Spectators typically view the action from the cliffs above at the Peʻahi overlook.
